The New Adobe Photoshop Logo

Adobe Systems was founded in 1982 by John Warnock and Carles Geschke. It develops and markets a number of widely used software programs including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Acrobat, and what has become its signature product, Adobe Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop was released in 1989 and quickly established itself as the premier name in computer image management. Today it is regarded as the “gold standard” by graphics industry professionals.

Its early logo was a simple one; a large white “P” and small white “s” set against a plain blue background. Recently, it was decided that a change was in order to more accurately reflect the company's “rich legacy, technical quality, and attention to detail that has made Adobe Photoshop the gold standard in digital imaging”, according to official press documents. The new Photoshop logo has large, distinctive font, depicting the word “Photoshop”. The phrase, “See What's Possible” appears in smaller font below. These words are in bold black font against a white background for maximum legibility.

The new logo incorporates a speech-bubble-like symbol to the left of the font. The bubble is a striking shade of blue and appears almost three dimensional due to its shading. It forms roughly the shape of the letter “P”. This feature is small which gives the font itself greater prominence. The color scheme remains true to the company's history, albeit in slightly different shades of blue. The use of black font gives it a slightly more formal tone, and the overall appearance of the logo is more spread out than the previous, more compact, logo. The new logo is somewhat ambiguous in its use of the speech bubble as to what is being implied. Combined with the slogan, “See What's Possible”, Adobe has created a level of intrigue regarding the Photoshop product that was lacking in earlier logo designs.

The new logo will appear on all recently released Adobe Photoshop products and related marketing, inviting a new generation of professional and amateur digital image enthusiasts to “See What's Possible”
