As its tagline suggests, Bad Ass Coffe Co. has some attitude in their logo, that's for sure. I'm not sure how they got away with it, but it seems they convinced the local authorities in Kona, Hawaii where they founded the company that the name is somehow harmless.
On the company website, the name is linked with a legend of donkeys that hauled heavy loads of coffee up and down local mountainsides - "In honor of these hard working donkeys, we named our coffee company".
Some love the logo, other hates it. The fact is that this company managed to create some buzz around their brand and even if some of the publicity was negative, they still managed to get some media coverage because of it.
The company will have more than 70 franchises open in the United States this year and Connie Alexakos, vice president of marketing for the Bad Ass Coffee Company says they've had quite a few incidents with upset parents in regards to their logo and naming.
Jared Novak, youth director at First Baptist Church of Bonita, points out that you cannot teach your children that this is not acceptable when the term is in clear view on a public sign approved by Lee Country.
I tend to agree with Jared and the people who claim this company should change its name. There's a fine line to walk when naming a company so close to a term can draw so much anger.
